Why I Wrote Before Sunrise

Well we’re finally coming down to the wire in preparation for the release of my next novel, Before Sunrise. Like the first book, it too is a male/male romance where the fine line between right and wrong must be resolved for love to survive.

So here’s a little about the book. I wrote the story almost three years ago when one of the main characters, Coach Phillip Silva introduced himself to me at 4:00 am (while I was trying to sleep). The next morning when I sat down with my cup of Joe, I couldn’t write my thoughts/his story fast enough. Phillip’s story poured out like melting lava down the side of a mountain, it was messy, destructive, and touched many lives. It was his story that made the outline for the entire book.

Now that the book is done, I can tell you that I am just as excited today for you to meet not only Phillip, but all the extraordinary character’s that surround him in his journey. It’s not only a journey of finding someone to love, but recognizing that he also had to love himself. Nothing is perfect, life can be difficult, and relationships are complex; well nothing is truer than that in Phillip’s life.

I have always believed that in order to receive love, you have to be willing. Love will knock, but you have to hear it, and be willing to open up the door for it to enter into your life.

Before Sunrise is a story of friendships, love, complicated relationships, and deception, woven into an unexpected ending. Although the core of the book is a romance, I dealt with a lot of real life issues that most of us have had to face at one time or another in our own life.

James Baldwin

As James A. Baldwin once said-“Love does not begin and end the way we seem to think it does. Love is a battle, love is a war, love is growing up.”

Have a great weekend everyone and thank you for dialing in.
